It’s easy to keep your mattress looking good and performing well for many years. If you are an allergy sufferer mattress hygiene is even more important to you. Here are Bedpost’s top tips for enjoying a clean and healthy sleep environment every night.
How do I remove marks from my mattress?
Your best defence at keeping your mattress clean is a mattress protector. A protector will stop caffeine spills and muddy paw prints that may have seeped through your bedding.
The StayNew® Mattress Protector is waterproof with a breathable Miracle Membrane® that acts as an allergy barrier, preventing dust mites and bacteria from breeding inside the mattress.
If you do have a mark on your mattress simply brush away any excess dirt, spot clean with a mild detergent and warm water and allow to dry naturally.
I suffer from asthma, rhinitis and eczema. Which bed is best for me?
Bedpost stock a range of quality mattresses for those suffering from many common allergies. Design Mobel’s latex core mattress creates an environment naturally resistant to mould, mildew and dust mites, while Sleephead’s Ultra Fresh allergy control delivers a fresher, more hygienic sleep experience.
How often should I turn my mattress?
We recommend turning your mattress once every month with a new mattress and less frequently with a mattress you’ve had for a year or more.
Never flip your mattress. The mattress design on the bottom is different to the design on the top, so flipping will only weaken the task your mattress was meant for.
Air it out
While sheets are in the wash, don’t be tempted to make the bed with a clean set of sheets straight away. Remove the mattress protector and allow the mattress to ‘breathe’ for a few hours, especially if it’s a warm and breezy day. Throw open the windows and let the sun in coupled with a good dose of fresh air.
This is also the perfect time to throw your mattress protector in the wash and vacuum your mattress. Make sure your vacuum attachment is clean first!
Cold Nights – Cold Sheets?
If your bedding feels damp when you go to bed, dry out the sheets by turning the electric blanket on for half an hour. Remember to turn the electric blanket off before falling asleep though!
